FMP Proposal....last one...i promise

I have been asked to create a project, which is solely based on the term ‘D.N.A’. This is an extremely vague term and can be interpreted in vast number of ways. The term D.N.A is short fordeoxyribonucleic acid’.

I will be solely concentrating on the ‘genetics’ part of DNA. My initial idea is to compare my features to my dads and granddads. This will be relevant and interesting because all three of us are the oldest of our generations from our family, if you look at images of each of us and compare us you can tell that we are related and also you can compare us and find extremely similar features.

My research will consist mostly of images of my dad and his dad. But I will also compare people I know or have heard of who also look like or have similar features to their family members. I will also be looking into genetics as a whole; from this information I will hang onto key points to include into my FMP. I have also visited a DNA exhibition in London, which had a whole room dedicated to the genetics part of DNA; so I could use images from that exhibition as my initial research and also for some professional ideas and influence. Also I will be broadening my knowledge of DNA by researching the meaning of genetics.

I will be keeping a look out for other exhibitions that I might be able to go to get ideas and to see other ways that I could portray this idea. That will make up my primary research. For my secondary research I could research the term DNA loosely and come up with quotes or past workings to include into my own work.

I will want to work with many techniques to produce my final outcomes or just to experiment and see what would work best. Some of these will be the collage of many pictures of my chosen family members and me. Another technique would be illustrating the actual features and images either free hand or by using Adobe Illustrator. If I was to create it free hand then there are many resources I could use to help create my final outcomes; these include paint, normal pencils, felts, various fine line pens and paintbrushes and also actual materials being put together to create the features and image.

I will also try and experiment with lino cut and try and make my own prints, I could also use acetate to make my own stencils; the way that would work best would be if I was to cut into many pages of acetate; cutting different features from a different person each time and the end piece would be a collage of all the stencil pieces printed together on one big A3 or A2 sheet.

I will develop my final pieces many times and concentrate on the aspect that I am not too confident on handling. For example these may be using a significant tool on Adobe Illustrator or there may be a problem with resources, which I should be able to attend to. My ideal poster would have at least 3 subliminal messages, however this type of poster should speak its message very easily and shouldn’t have any subliminal messages.

The concentration and precise work needed on my part is extremely hard and strict, this is why I should be working on this non-stop until I am happy with the outcomes and I am happy with the level of commitment that I am inputting. So far I have not been concentrating as much as I should so that will have to change and I will have to start concentrating on my work and have a major input in my work.

I think that if I just compare one set of people it might not be enough for FMP standards. To solve this problem I will be making various posters not just consisting of me my dad and granddad, I will make others, which compare other people in my family with similar characteristics to each other. I am sure that I can find people in my family with similar characteristics, however if I cannot then I will have to resort to using other people who I can illustrate and include in my own work.

I will need to create a detailed action plan so that I can stay on track and up to date with my work. This will also make me more concerned about my work and want to complete the tasks set to me by myself. I must stick to this action plan because if I deter from it I will be behind and then all my work will start to pile up and I wont be able to handle it.

My end products will consist of 3 or more comparisons on A3 or A2 poster paper of my family. These will be produced to the highest quality, I must not cut corners and this is why I have said that it will be extremely hard and precise. I will also have some research and images incorporated into my work as a ‘witness’ that I have made this myself and that it is not forgery. I will use many materials and techniques to create these posters and these materials and techniques will be the subliminal messages in my work. They will link to the personality of the person/s I am comparing. Also there may be other subliminal messages in my work which link to the people I will be comparing, maybe the subliminal will link to all the people I am comparing in that certain poster.

At the end of year show I am hoping to produce an exceptional brief by carrying this idea out and making it unique, fresh and innovative. To do this I must produce a detailed action plan that I must follow so that I don’t lose track of what I am doing and so that I don’t fall back and lose my initiative.
