I have been asked to create a project, which is solely based on the term ‘D.N.A’. My interpretation will consist of an analogue watch, which will be laid out in an exploded diagram sort of way. The way I want to structure this diagram is in the form of a strand of DNA. This will show that the gears and workings of an analogue watch and a strand of DNA are structured in such a way that they are perfect.

The way I would like to go about this is to create larger scale parts of an analogue watch and structure them in an exploded diagram type way in the structure of a DNA strand. I will also make the model from actual watch components for accuracy.

The materials I would like to use are Styrofoam or cardboard to create the large scale watch component; paint for the smooth finish of the watch components and string to hold it all together while it is hanging from the ceiling.

I have only 6 weeks to complete this task so I will need a well-structured action plan to help along the way and to keep me on track.

Another aspect i could use is the fact that because a strand of DNA contains all our personal data, i could use a barcode system to compare it with. A barcode is used in all shops and retailers to identify the product and its value.

i have created this just to show the aspects of DNA i can use for my project.

Another concept that i have been working with is the fact that a strand of DNA contains your genetic, personal and humane data. so i would like to portray this by showing that a strand of DNA can be compared to a USB Memory Stick. the end products for this idea would be a fully functional memory stick which has been crafted in the shape of a strand of DNA and a poster to show this, i could also make a promotional poster for this certain type of memory stick.

For my FMP my idea is to show how the structure of an analogue watch is similar to a strand of DNA. i would like to show this by comparing the 2 items to each other and i will find a way that they can connect and i will show that connection in a poster designed by myself.

Initial Idea (very vague)

my intial idea was to show the mechanical part of a watch to portray the structure of a single strand of DNA, I would structure the inside of a watch as a strand of DNA, i have to work on this concept because it would not be acceptable and wouldn't have a meaning.
